Integration of interventional MRI with computer-assisted surgery.

چکیده
Interventional MRI (IMRI) has entered into a new stage in which computer-based techniques play an increasing role in planning, monitoring, and controlling the procedures. The use of interactive imaging, navigational image guidance techniques, and image processing methods is demonstrated in various applications. The integration of intraoperative MRI guidance and computer-assisted surgery will greatly accelerate the clinical utility of image-guided therapy in general and interventional MRI in particular. J. Interventional Radiology Robot for CT and MRI Guided Percutaneous Interventions
This paper introduces a new patient-mounted CT and MRI guided interventional radiology robot for percutaneous needle interventions. The 5 DOF robot uses ultrasonic motors and pneumatics to position the needle and then insert it progressively. The needle position and inclination can be registered in the images using two strategically placed fiducials visible in both imaging modalities. A first p...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a cutting edge imaging modality in detecting diseases and pathologic tissue. The superior soft tissue contrast in MRI allows better definition of the pathology. MRI is increasingly used for guiding, monitoring and controlling percutaneous procedures and surgery. The rapid development of interventional techniques in radiology has led to integration of imaging ...
متن کاملRobot-assisted needle placement in open MRI: system architecture, integration and validation.
In prostate cancer treatment, there is a move toward targeted interventions for biopsy and therapy, which has precipitated the need for precise image-guided methods for needle placement. This paper describes an integrated system for planning and performing percutaneous procedures with robotic assistance under MRI guidance. A graphical planning interface allows the physician to specify the set o...
متن کاملComputer-Assisted Ankle Joint Arthroplasty Using Bio-engineered Autografts
Bio-engineered cartilage has made substantial progress over the last years. Preciously few cases, however, are known where patients were actually able to benefit from these developments. In orthopaedic surgery, there are two major obstacles between in-vitro cartilage engineering and its clinical application: successful integration of an autologuous graft into a joint and the high cost of indivi...
متن کاملRegistration of different phases of contrast-enhanced CT/MRI data for computer-assisted liver surgery planning: evaluation of state-of-the-art methods.
The exact localization of intrahepatic vessels in relation to a tumour is an important issue in oncological liver surgery. For computer-assisted preoperative planning of surgical procedures high quality vessel models are required. In this work we show how to generate such models on the basis of registered CT or MRI data at different phases of contrast agent propagation. We combine well-establis...
